Mel’s Diner staff celebrate Blue Zones Project recognition with Dr. Allen Weiss, president and CEO of the NCH Healthcare System. Weiss introduced the project to the region.

Two restaurants from opposite ends of the food spectrum have joined the Blue Zones Project crusade.

Mel’s Diner, with a vast menu steeped in comfort food, and True Food Kitchen, launched with the help of a physician for health-conscious eating, have earned Blue Zones Project approval.

They join 9 other restaurants in Southwest Florida that have expanded menu options and made other changes to promote better health among customers.

The Blue Zones Project was introduced to the area two years ago to help communities take steps to improve the health and longevity of its residents, both young and old.
